Jeffrey Bennett asked:

I’ve been wanting to sell my website designs for some time now, but have been unable to find the market value. I’ve won awards and been featured in very popular websites, but I’ve never sold any of my creations because I don’t know how much to sell them for. This is where I must ask you how much would you pay for a complete website design (whether or not you actually need it right now).
Please give me answers for the following number of pages:
1. One page
2. Two pages
3. Five pages
4. Ten pages

Your question is a little vague. What do your web site designs do?

Pretend I’m a local small business owner in your town. I’m thinking of setting up a web site for my law practice, and it is all going to be static content. If I purchase what you have right now, what kinds of customizations will I need to do? I am not a computer person, so can I use something simple like FrontPage to make my site using your designs (is this going to be easy for me)? Do I have to purchase Dreamweaver or something else (I don’t know anything about those tools)? Are you the only person who can customize your designs (am I going to be dependent upon you in the future)?

Now pretend I’m a more sophisticated user. I want online ordering, dynamic inventory, payment processing, and a knowledge base built in. I want to support all of the popular browsers, and I do not want to suggest that people download Internet Explorer for the best experience. I have much of the middle-layer developed using Java and the back-end is MySQL. I want to purchase your designs for the front-end. How difficult will this be?

Your ability to answer those questions truthfully and accurately will determine the value of your designs. If you cannot provide any assistance, they might be worth $30 on eBay. If you can provide some expertise on integrating your designs into a full-blown solution, you can charge $25-$125 per hour depending on the client.

    Hopefully they’re worth alot!

I’ve also been looking it to selling webdesign. The best way to figure out your value is to just search other web design companies and see what there rates are. Also what is your time worth to you? Prices vary so much i’ve seen $40 an hr seems to be a popular price, and as far as just design it varies from 300+

    Good luck

    John
